The Federation of Nepali Journalists has drawn its attention to the fact that the local administration of Syangja has initiated the process of taking action against journalist Roshan Lamichhane of Andhikhola Express.com.

The Federation of Nepali Journalists Gandaki Province Committee has stated that the District Administration Office has written to the Police Office for action, stating that a complaint has been registered against journalist Lamichhane regarding the news published on the 7th Syangja Mahotsav organized by the Chamber of Commerce and Industry on the said website. Lamichhane is also a member of the Federation of Nepali Journalists Gandaki Province Committee.

If you are not satisfied with the news or have a complaint, there is an established provision that you can go to legal redress or file a complaint with the Press Council Nepal. Ignoring this, proceeding with the process of taking action against a journalist from the main administrative center of the district is in itself shameful and regrettable.

Considering this step of the administration as an act against press freedom, the Federation demands from the concerned bodies to refrain from such actions that would undermine the constitutional guarantees of journalists and to create an environment where journalists can engage in communication work freely and without hindrance, respecting press freedom.
