The Federation of Nepali Journalists is shocked and saddened by the sad news of the passing of senior journalist Bhairav ​​Risal, a prominent figure in the Nepali journalism sector and a freedom fighter, at the age of 97. Risal passed away on Sunday evening, Chaitra 24, at the Frontline Hospital in Old Baneshwor, Kathmandu, during his treatment.

Senior journalist Risal was active in the Federation of Nepali Journalists, being affiliated with the Kathmandu branch of the Federation of Nepali Journalists until 2077 BS. During this time, he played the role of an advisor in the Bhaktapur branch of the Federation. He was honored with the 'Press Freedom Fighter' honor by the Federation of Nepali Journalists in 2064 BS.

Risal, who has been active in journalism for the past six decades, worked in the National News Committee from BS 2020 BS to 2042 BS. He worked in the Halkhabar newspaper for about four years and hosted a program on Radio Sagarmatha. Risal, who had been writing a regular column in the Workers' Daily when his health was improving, also used to write. His books include ‘Sadhulai Suli’ (Jail Diary), ‘Logneswasni’, ‘Kehi Mitraka Chithi’ and ‘Bhairavadai’.

With his death, the Nepali journalism world has lost a principled, mature, competent and experienced journalist. The Federation has considered his death as an irreparable loss to the journalism world. The Nepali journalism world will always remember his contribution to the field of journalism. The late Risal is survived by his wife, two sons and two daughters.

The Federation of Nepali Journalists pays heartfelt tribute to the late Risal and prays for the eternal peace of the departed soul. It also expresses its deepest condolences, wishing that the bereaved family may find the strength to bear this loss in this hour of grief.
